Talisman is usually the material thing which reminds you of your assumptions. It is like a reference point, which is used when direction is lost to get you out of the darkness. Even if you wander of too far and find out by logic that your assumptions are not correct. You have to keep your previous assumptions for this is what assumptions are (they cannot be understood by logic).
